because the story of frankenstein was a very insprational story which explains the stages of artificially creating life and the outcome. frankenstein is an example of a sceientist who wanted to be very popular and tried to achieve this by artificially creating life 'frankensteins monster'. the author of this book tried to show her feelings about the scientific advances of that day and i believe she was clearly not happy with the advances and tried to portray that through this book by making frankenstein seem like the bad guy by making the frankenstein created creature reak havoc and destroy the city. the character frankenstein has alot of meaning and history behind him and that is why he is such an iconic character.
There are many different obsessions in Frankenstein. One is Robert Waltons obsession with his exploration. Another one, probably the most major, would be Victor Frankenstein's obsession with creating life. He wanted to play the role of God and give inanimate objects life not only for scientific research but also to become famous and go down in history.
I can think of several epiphanies in Frankenstein off of the top of my head. One is after Frankenstein's creature comes to life he immediately realizes that he has created something monstrous. Another is when Frankensteins creature is outcast by the De Lacey family he realizes that he can never belong in a human society. I can think of one more when Frankenstein is creating a companion for the creature and he immediately stops and tears apart his work because he realizes that he is only repeating his mistakes.
Frankensteint tries to "play God." His attempt at creating life/immortality messes with the natural order of things, which has disastrous consequences. Frankenstein also ends up becoming figuratively immortal himself in that his decision to protect humankind rather than alleviate his own problems by creating a second monster protects humankind and creates a legacy that would live on through Robert Walton.

Creating the creature a mate would have solved Frankenstein's immediate problems; however, he could potentially have destroyed humankind or set off a whole chain of events he didn't want to happen. The creature was miserable; creating a whole new race of these creatures could have been disastrous. Note: Victor Frankenstein is the creator's name; the creature is simply called "the creature" or "the monster" but is NOT called "Frankenstein."
