The other justices turn out to be villains and Justice Strauss was kidnapped. Olaf reveals his murderous scheme and Sunny suggests burning down the hotel. Then in 'The End' (#13) the Baudeaire children find themselves trapped in the middle of nowhere with an evil man named Count Olaf who caused the fire that burned the Baudelaire Mansion and tore the family apart by killing the parents. The fire would have killed the whole family had the children not been at Briny Beach when it occured.
