Digimon did not copy Pokemon. Pokemon created a GENRE, not a GAME. Digimon was next to pass on the genre. Then came more games in the genre (mobile ones are stupid). I have never played Digimon game because I don't have the right console but I like the anime. I am still waiting for Digimon Survive for the Nintendo Switch. Digimon is my favorite show and I like to draw "Virtukins", a video game I made up that is in the same genre. I LOVE MONSTER COLLECTORS!

Rumors are that Digimon was broadcast in Japan before Pokemon, but did not gain attention overseas until after Pokemon was broadcast.

Technically Pokemon was after Digimon; Digimon came out first as a tamagotchi pet and then a TV show. The Pokemon show before the Digimon show, though.

I'm sick of fans thinking that Digimon came before Pokemon. Both Tamagotchi and Digimon are two different franchise. Fans should know that Tamagotchi got three anime series and three movies. Digimon virtual pets didn't came out until in 1997.

The idea behind Pokémon was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996, originally manifesting as a pair of interlinkable Game Boy role playing games. Bandai released a small handheld electronic toy called 'Digimon Virtual Pet' in 1997.

Not only that, but The Pokémon anime was then released 1 year later, and aired its pilot episode on April 1 1997. Digimon didn't receive an anime until March 6 1999.

Digimon virtual pets came out in 1997 not in 1995. Most fans should know that both Digimon and Tamagotchi are two different franchise.

because the digimon people were to lazy and unable to create their own ideas, so they decided to jump on the pokemon bandwagon and since pokemon was bringing in so much green, they figured it would be a good investment to jump in on the market with a clean copy.

and don't you digimon bots out there give me that crap about how they made some dumb virtual pet first so they must have invented the idea of digital monsters, sorry kids but there is a big difference between digital pets and digital monsters that always have the ''mon'' behind it, you can even look at the name to know that it is a rip off, my theories are 1: as i stated above, 2: some insider at the pokemon company/or gamefreak or whatever was a sell out for profit to the digimon people, 3: this is an extreme and i mean extreme coincidence, where some random act in the cosmos as you will caused 2 people in the same country to randomly come up wih these extremely similar concepts of a game 2 years apart from each other, and also somehow the digimon people were living under a rock because they didn't know about how popular pokemon was at that time because if they did know how popular pokemon was then they have all the reason to want to copy pokemon, i rest my case

Pokemon did indeed come before Digimon. Pokemon Red and Blue was released in 1996 in Japan, followed by a TV show, and then the moving of the games to America and the premiering of the English version of the show in 1997. The Digimon V-Pet which was created as a male rival for Tamagochi was released in late 1996, after Pokemon Red and Blue had already been released.

Pokémon and Digimon are related only based on the fact that they have evolving creatures and in Digimon Adventure, Digimon Tamers and Digimon Data Squad as well as Digimon Fusion a human is partnered with one of those creatures and just like in Pokémon with Pokémon Trainers being responsible for their Pokémon and training them the humans in Digimon are also responsible for caring for their partnered Digimon and helping them to grow into a more powerful creature so that they can become even more powerful. Digimon and Pokémon also have villains but Pokémon usually has human villains whereas the villains in Digimon are usually evil Digimon or Digimon that have become corrupted and another difference is that Pokémon can die but Digimon cannot die their data will just be re-configured and reformatted into a Digi-Egg of their Baby or Fresh form with the exception of Digimon Tamers in which Digimon can die if a Digimon is defeated and their data is absorbed.
