∙ 9y agoJ.K. Rowling wrote the epilogue very early on in the process, long before any of the books were published. She had always planned for Harry and Ginny to end up together.
Ginny had always had a crush on Harry and this developed into real feelings as she grow older and Harry found he had deep feelings for her. They both understand each other well, Ginny wasn't surprised when Harry broke up with her to go looking for Horcruxes because she knew it was something he had to do. And they waited for each other.
Although Harry and Hermione are very very close, their relationship was more like brother and sister. They would never have worked as a couple.
