In "The Sons of Katie Elder" (filmed in Durango in 1965) Tom Elder (Wayne) and his 3 brothers are accused of horse rustling.
Martin and Wayne made two movies together. Rio Lobo (1959) and Sons of Katie Elder (1965). I can't remember Martin being shot with an arrow in either one of these films.
The cast of The Sons of Katie Elder - 1965 includes: Rodolfo Acosta as Bondie Adams Sheldon Allman as Harry Evers John Doucette as Hyselman Paul Fix as Sheriff Billy Wilson Jerry Gatlin as Amboy Harvey Grant as Jeb James Gregory as Morgan Hastings Percy Helton as Mr. Peevey Earl Holliman as Matt Elder Dennis Hopper as Dave Hastings Martha Hyer as Mary Gordon Loren Janes as Ned Reese George Kennedy as Curley John Litel as Minister Strother Martin as Jeb Ross Dean Martin as Tom Elder John Qualen as Charlie Biller Chuck Roberson as Townsman Jeremy Slate as Ben Latta Karl Swenson as Doc Isdell Ralph Volkie as Bit Part John Wayne as John Elder James Westerfield as Mr. Vennar Paul Whitson Jack Williams as Andy Sharp Rhys Williams as Charlie Striker Henry Wills as Gus Dolly Joe Yrigoyen as Buck Mason
John Wayne used the same gun in several movies - a Winchester Model 94, chambered for a 32-40 round. The John Wayne Commemorative Rifle (I have one still new in the box I got 24 years ago) has engraved on the receiver all of the movies he used that particular rifle in. It differs from the standard Winchester in that the lever has a larger loop, making it stand out. Any John Wayne fan can spot the difference - in some movies, he'll even swap a regular Winchester for that one. Some of the movies he used it in are:The Sons of Katie ElderHondoThe SearchersStagecoachThe Man who shot Liberty ValanceEl DoradoShe Wore a Yellow RibbonThe War WagonRed RiverThe CowboysMcClintock! There is no indication that any of John Wayne's children were homosexual.

They co-starred in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and in The Shootist . They were both on-screen in How the West Was Won , but never together, and Wayne's appearence was little more than a cameo.

It's extremely doubtful. If a high profile star like John Wayne had participated in what, at the time, would have been a highly emotionally charged political activity it would have been headline news.Additionally 1965 was a very busy year for Wayne. He filmed 3 movies (The Greatest Story Ever Told, In Harm's Way and The Sons of Katie Elder) and was less than a year past surgery to have his left lung and 4 ribs removed due to lung cancer.
This is one of my favorite John Wayne movies and the name of the young actors that played JD Cahill's sons were Gary Grimes and Clay O'Brien. I thought they both did a great job. When sharing the screen with someone with the 'presence' that Wayne had could diminish lessor actors but the boys didn't lose an inch.
He started out singing with the sons of the pioners and Thomas Dorsays band I figure John Ford and thr Duke John Wayne.
In this film, John Wayne played the character of Jacob McCandles. That character's three sons were played by Patrick Wayne (the Duke's real son), Christopher Mitchum (son of star Robert), and pop star Bobby Vinton(!?!).
Patrick Wayne: "Big Jake" (1971), "The Green Berets" (1968), "McLintock!" (1963), "Donovan's Reef" (1963), "The Comancheros" (1961), "The Alamo" (1960), "The Searchers" (1956), "The Conqueror" (1956), "The Quiet Man" (1952), "Rio Grande" (1950).
