A:We do know that religious belief is on the wane all around the world, other than in Africa and South America, but we need not jump to conclusions as to the reasons for this. A gradual movement away from religion has been apparent for more than two hundred years, gathering pace from the 1960s onwards. The evidence for a 'cult of celebrity' is mixed. There are celebrity evangelists who seek to encourage religious belief, sometimes arguably at the expense of religious values. There are celebrities of stage and screen, as well as celebrity sportspeople, but there is no good evidence that people who follow or admire these celebrities have lost their religious beliefs or religious values. In my view, the loss of religious values is an inevitable consequence of a changing society and the greater willingness of people to question doctrine. It is not significantly the result of any 'cult of celebrity'.

A requirement of the ceremony is that awardees wear a traditional Malaysian hat, and in addition Jackie was seated next to an Islamic religious leader who was also being given the same award. The photo of Jackie wearing the required traditional hat and seated next to the religious leader is used as the proof of his conversion. In fact they are being given the same award and it is just a coincidence.
