Best Answer

The first Best Picture winner was an action war film: Wings (1927). And since then there were a few other pure action movies that were nominated (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Fugitive). Additional action movies that won Best Picture are The French Connection (1971), Braveheart (1995) and to some extent The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) and The Departed(2006).
