One way would be to confide in school officials about the theft, along with any suspicions you have about who it might be. Another would be to ask school officials if they have surveillance cameras in the area where the theft occurred, and if they do not, ask them if they could be added. Also, you could ask friends to keep a watch on your property, and see who seems to have an interest in it.

One schoolboy in Australia devised a trap (see the link below) for catching somebody who stole his lunch money. It's probably not a good idea to try to catch the thief all by yourself. Tell as many people as you can trust about the theft, including your parents. Letting everyone know about it is kind of like a bank robbery showing up on the evening news ... people will keep spreading it around, and will very likely be trying to figure it out as much as you are. Even if you don't catch the thief this way, the "publicity" will probably tend to make it less likely that they will continue the practice, at least for a while!
