Percy wants to continue fighting, but breathing becomes harder. His heart begins to slow. Praying for help, he jumps into the water to discover that he can breathe, and stay dry, underwater. He retrieves his sword, Anaklusmos, and speaks with a Nereid, who bears a message from his father: he must go to the bay in Santa Monica, and he musn't trust the gifts. What gifts? he wonders as he walks out of the river, dry, and reunites with Annabeth and Grover to journey to Denver, where a surprise visit from a Greek god awaits him.
