To adjust the carburetor on a Robin engine, first ensure the engine is warm and running. Locate the adjustment screws, typically labeled as the idle and mixture screws. Adjust the idle screw to set the engine speed at a desired idle RPM, then fine-tune the mixture screw for optimal performance by turning it clockwise to lean the mixture or counterclockwise to enrich it, listening for changes in engine sound. Always make small adjustments and allow the engine to stabilize before making further changes.
There is a single idle mixture screw on top of the carb, if there isn't much change and still running rough, you'll need to re-jet. Try .55-.60 idle jet, worked well for mine. Ordered 170 mains waiting to put in and test.
To adjust the tappets on a Robin EH29C engine, first, ensure the engine is cool and remove the valve cover. Rotate the engine to top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke for the cylinder being adjusted. Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance between the tappet and the valve stem; adjust the tappet screw to achieve the specified clearance, typically around 0.15 mm for intake and 0.20 mm for exhaust. Finally, recheck the clearance and replace the valve cover once adjustments are complete.
