Your Pokemon can contract PokeRus from an infected wild Pokemon during battle. There is no way to tell if the Pokemon has the virus (unlike other conditions like 'shiny'), so it is mostly up to chance. You cannot seek out to find the virus, as it is random and found wherever wild Pokemon are.
It's extremely difficult - lots of glitches. The best place to look for all the steps is an online guide on sites such as Gamefaqs or Neoseeker.

∙ 12y agoPokerus (or Pokemon virus) is a very rare status condition that is beneficial to the infected Pokemon. It is found during normal gameplay, although it is very difficult to catch and has about the same chances of encounter as seeing a shiny Pokemon. Pokerus infects your lead Pokemon if it is battling a wild Pokemon with the Pokerus condition. Unless you capture this Pokemon, there is no way to tell if the wild Pokemon has the virus or not.
Of course, Pokemon in your party can catch the Pokerus virus from your lead Pokemon if you send it out into battle a few times. If your Pokemon still has the purple 'Pkrs' status bar in its summary, it can infect other Pokemon. If this then turns into a small smiley face or a dot, the Pokemon can no longer spread the virus. It is useful to deposit the infected Pokemon in a PC box as this will help it retain its infectious status.
Pokemon with the Pokerus condition which are traded can also infect your party using the same method as above.
