Wonder Cards are what D/P/PT/HG/SS use for event Pokemon. These "cards" are distributed at special events such as VGC and press releases, and also from retailers like Toys 'R Us and GameStop. There are also special region-wide distributions that occur over WFC.
There are three methods for receiving a Wonder Card. To begin, start your game, and choose "Mystery Gift" from the menu. Then, select "Receive Gift". From here, you can choose between the three distribution methods. "Get via Wireless" is used for standard event Pokemon distributions at retailers or event locations. "Get via Nintendo WFC" is used for region-wide distributions, and requires that you be in-range of a compatible Wi-Fi access point with internet connectivity. "Get from a Friend" can theoretically let you receive a Wonder Card from a friend, although there are no Cards I am aware of that allow this.
When attempting to receive a Wonder Card, you may get the message that you already have too many Wonder Cards. In this case, make sure that you have collected your event Pokemon from the green-suited deliveryman in the PokeMarts, and do the following: Select "Check Card" from the Mystery Gift menu, then press 'A' on the card you wish to discard, and choose "Trash" from the menu. As long as you have already collected the corresponding Pokemon from the deliveryman, deleting the card will not affect your game.
