From what I know of, you can't. You can however remove the battery and when replacing it, it will prompt you to continue with your Digimon, items and money intact. Hit Yes in this case, or click no to start new. This way you can "turn it off" while also saving your data.
The Digivice also turns off when you leave it for a while, in a suspended state. It will still count the clock down but the LED screen will be blank. The Digivice will bleep though if your Digimon needs your attention.
This applies to the original Japanese iC, I'm not sure about the Burst models.

Leave them at the farm for a while until theyre about a level 8 or 9. Then get 3 on your team (your starter should be about a 10 or 11) and you should easily beat him now :)
