He dies when Harry, Hermione, Ron, Luna, Dean, and Ollivander are in the Malfoy's basement. Wormtail goes down there to check on them and Harry says something like, "You better let me go, you owe me Wormtail." (He owes him because Harry saved his life in The Prisoner of Azkaban) After he opens the door, Wormtail's silver hand that Voldemort made for him (he got this in the Goblet of Fire from Voldemort since he cut off his hand in order for Voldemort to return.) starts strangling him. Voldemort does this while he is on his way to the Malfoys to kill Harry.
