It doesn't take very long. On Emerald version, I was breeding some, and they were having eggs very quickly. One time, I took the egg from the day care man, walked into their house and to the PC, dropped off the egg, walked back out, and there was already another egg. Just drop off the Pokemon there and walk around in the area for a while. Have some patience, and you'll get your egg soon.
