How many times did Arnold Schwarzenegger play the terminator?

3 times. Even though his character appeared in Terminator Salvation, he did not play him physically. Instead his body double was Roland Kickinger with Arnie's face superimposed on him through the use of CGI (computer graphic imaging).

Schwarzenegger appeared in The Terminator (1984), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003).

Arnold is a T-800 of the 101 series. Early in shooting, they decided to go different this time, and show a new type of Terminator, the T-850. When they released how the new 850's would look, it was met with great disdain by the fans. Instead of the classic "metal skull" design on the former Terminators, these had a circular head and lots of red lights and crap on them. When they found out the fan outcry was too large, they scrapped the idea and used the old T-800's instead. Unfortunately, the book was already written, and the video game was already well under development. So, they're still 850's in the book and game, as well as on some places of the website. But his actual model, that the fan base has stuck to, is T-800. T-800 is the Endoskeleton. 101 is the flesh job. Because they're infiltrator units, they can't all look alike. 102's wouldn't like Arnold, nor would 100's.

I believe that Arnie was a Cyberdyne Systems Model 101, a prototype of the T-800.
