You should read "The Adventures of the Speckled band".........
This book is so so so good....................
You might try one of the following four titles with similar contents (the latter three have been out of print for some time):
The Apocrypha of Sherlock Holmes edited by Leslie S. Klinger
Sherlock Holmes: The Published Apocrypha edited by Jack Tracy
The Final Adventures of Sherlock Holmes edited by Peter Haining
The Uncollected Sherlock Holmes edited by Richard Lancelyn Green
These books feature several items written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and some others, including two very short breakfast table snippets titled 'The Field Bazaar' and 'How Watson Learned the Trick,' which would fit in front of any of Watson's stories as well as two short stories with an unnamed arm-chair detective with erroneous conclusions that were published between 'The Final Problem' and 'The Hound of the Baskervilles.'
There are several hundred items written by other authors over the past hundred years or so that would qualify as 'fanfiction,' and there are literally several thousand items of speculative banter about topics such as Watson's middle name and marriages, Holmes' college, the chronology of the original stories. etc. These latter items have come to be known as the Sherlockian game.
There are also several other fine detective stories by other authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ellery Queen, etc.

it has changed through media and technology!
In the first book, a study in scarlet Sherlock Holmes and Watson meet and share an apartment so that the rent wasn't expensive. Watson later finds out that Holmes is a detective, and they both later go to the crime scene where Mr. Drebber died. Holmes discovers all this stuff at the crime scene. Later in the book Holmes discovers that Mr. Strangerson was also killed. In the end Sherlock Holmes finds out that the actual killer was............................................. thats the end of part 1 in the book. You might say The 'Gloria Scott' is the beginning of Sherlock Holmes for it is in this story that Sherlock Holmes first turned his attention to solving crime.
The Case Of Professor Moriarty And The Diamond is a title for a Sherlock Holmes book. However, The case of The Missing Diamond is not one.
