The monkey in Disney's Tarzan is merely a minor character to introduce new parts of the plot and create a situation causing Tarzan to save/meet Jane. Specifically, the monkey is a juvenile Mandrill. Unless of course, you're referring to one of the gorillas, such as Tarzan's best friend, Terk. But gorillas are apes.
