In Pokemon Blue can you catch the marowak in the lost tower or will it just screw up your game the ghost of Cubones mother?

I'm not sure I've played red and yellow so i think blue should be the same...no matter what ball you use marowak dodges the ball, it's basically a Pokemon you can't catch since it's a ghost...and some other confusing stuff the only way round it is defeating it which will....release it's soul or put it's soul at ease and you can carry on your journey and get the pokeflute from mr. fuji. Just another note if you run from the marowak you will just step back and marowak will still be there
