Long ago his brother was beaten by the Gym Leader Brandon.I think Paul vowed that he'll become a Strong trainer to get revenge for his brother who doesn't really want that.Sometimes Paul sees Ash and his brother as the same person kind and hateful less.Paul is just trying to do his best but often overdo's it.
