The black boy statue with the lantern is a lawn jockey. This particular lawn jockey is called the Faithful Groomsman. The statue was created by a general who admired the fact that the man was so young, yet so devoted, that he froze to death holding the lantern of light to guide the soldiers home.

The Hachikou statue is a statue of a dog that sits outside Shibuya station in Tokyo. It is a popular meeting place, because it's easy to spot, and in the large, concrete area that greets you when exiting the station, it can be hard to find who you're looking for. (At night time, in particular, it can get very crowded.) The story is that the dog used to wait everyday outside the station for its master to return. When finally the master died, it continued waiting and waiting for as long as ten years. To commemorate its loyalty, the statue was created.
