Carlos Ray Norris aka Chuck Norris did not invent Karate. He does not even train in Karate. Chuck Norris trains and holds a masters rank in Tang Soo Do, a Korean form of martial art that has some roots to Shotokan Karate through General Choi, who was the founder of Tae Kwon Do. Chuck Norris mixed Tang Soo Do with Brazilian Jui Jutsu to create Chun Kuk Do, his own martial art. Karate is an Okinawa Martial Art and was popularized in Japan in the early 1920's by Gichin Funakoshi who is credited as the Father of Modern Karate Do. Chuck Norris never invented Karate, nor did he invent a new system of Karate. Contrary to urban legends, Chuck Norris did not invent karate. He learned Tang So Do, a Korean style of karate, while stationed in that country with the US Air Force.
Chuck Norris originally studied Tang Soo Do (which later became Taekwondo) and Chun Kuk Do, both of which are Korean systems of karate. He currently is considered a Taekwondo practitioner. He studied in South Korea while stationed there with the Air Force. He currently holds an 8th Degree Black Belt Grand Master in Taikwondo. Mr. Norris was six-year (consecutive) World Karate Champion. On July 1, 2000, Norris presented the Golden Lifetime Achievement Award by the World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
Chuck Norris studied Tang Soo Do (tangsudo), which is related to Tae Soo Do (taekwondo). It derives from various forms of karate, kung fu, and taekkyeon. He has incorporated this into his own style, called Chun Kuk Do.
The word "Dan" is the same as "degree black belt." The dan ranks are different throughout the various martial arts. Some arts do not even have ranking systems. Most that do stop at 9th dan or 10th dan, and the only way to acquire a 10th dan is to be promoted by skill to 9th dan, and then found your own school in that art. This is provided that your particular art has a governing world federation. Karate is governed by the World Karate Federation. Anyone who wishes to open a school of karate must either obtain a 9th dan and then permission from the WKF, or teach independently. Chuck Norris has: 10th dan in Shito-ryu karate, 10th dan in Tang soo do, 8th dan grandmaster rank in Tae kwon do, 2nd dan in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, 11th dan in his own style, Chun kuk do. He did not take any test to acquire this 11th dan, but established himself as the only person who can award a 10th dan in Chun kuk do to anyone. He is also well trained under Bruce Lee in both Wing Chun Kung Fu and Jeet Kune Do under Lee's best student, Dan Inosanto.
Jang Kuk-Chol was born in 1994.

Chuck Norris is actually a practitioner of Tang Soo Do (tangsudo) a Korean martial art not as well known as Tae Kwon Do. His subsequent education includes a variety of martial arts that he has formed into a hybred form know as Chun Kuk Do ("Universal Way"). In all my research about Chuck Norris I cannot find any credentials referring to a formal education in Karate. And whoever put this in the Fairy section is really asking for trouble.
