The Iron Man depicted in Iron Man 2 would be able to handle Iron Man 1 Pretty handily. The Iron Man I was still being poisoned and weakened by the Palladium of the Arc Reactor. Additionally The Mark VI suit of Iron Man 2 is an Upgrade of Iron Man 1's Mark III. The upgrades include the 200 kW laser system which takes advantage of increased power supply as well as enhances the laser strength. He has also installed a mini missile system into the wrist which can penetrate armor before detonating.

On IMDB, Iron Man scored a 7.1 and The Avengers scored an 8.3.

On Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, Iron Man got a 73% while The Avengers got a 93%.

On Rotten Tomatoes' Audience statistic, Iron Man got a 80% while The Avengers got a 96%.

It's on par with the first movie. So if you enjoyed Iron Man you will probably enjoy the sequel as well.
