Porter governor can work at higher RPM due to dead weight attached on sleeve which is its main advantage.

RPM tells you how many revolutions per minute your engine is running. When you're in park, the engine is still going, so RPM's will be above zero.
It is normal for the RPM to increase a little when put in park or neutral. If the RPM increases by a lot, then you need to adjust your idle speed.
For most newer vehicles this is normal. It puts unnecessary wear on an engine to rev it high in park/neutral.
Yes, the computer is programmed to only allow a certain rpm while in park.
while you are in park? That should be normal. While in gear or driving, no that isn't.
idler pulley.
My rpm light came on but not my check engine light so what does that mean when the rpm light is on
If you mean a rpm gage it will hook up to the distributor or coil.
Should be about 8 or 900 RPM.
If you have a leak in your vaccum system, it will idle a few hundred more rpm's than normal, the idle speed setting is all electronic and can't be altered.
The tach should have 3 wires a 12v accessory, ground, and rpm wire. The rpm wire is the blue one on the distributor.
A typical idle speed for a normal car engine is 600 rpm to 1,000 rpm. It is higher for buses and motorcycles. RPM stands for revolutions per minute.
