Is it true that Mickey Mouse is one of the oldest cartoons?

Mickey Mouse was one of the first animated cartoon characters to appear in a series of sound films. He appeared in two films before the famous Steamboat Willie in 1928, one of which, Plane Crazy, was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon to be released. The character that inspired Mickey (in 1927) was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (also drawn by longtime Disney artist Ub Iwerks). In 2006, ABC/Disney reacquired the rights to Oswald from NBC/Universal in exchange for sportscaster Al Michaels.Mickey's popularity eclipsed a rival, popular silent-era character Felix the Cat.
