Probably or possibly the Iroquois from the word Erie meaning log tail or cat people.

------

I did a little digging and can't find a reference for the Iroquois and any relation to 'cat people.' The closest I can find is the Aztec belief of the Jaguar, and Jaguar Warriors. Some of their very early (more Mayan) beliefs surrounded a "were-cat" or "were-jaguar" and that is the closest I can find.

There was an all-female tribe in Africa that called themselves the Cat People and used paint to make themselves look more feline.
