Mathew B. Brady (ca. 1822 - January 15, 1896) who is credited as being the father of photojournalism, was one of the most honored American

photographers of the 19th century. He is best remebered for his vivid and realistic documentation of the Civil War and his photographs of the celebrities of his day.

In 1849, after setting up a studio in Washington, D.C., he met Juliette "Julia" Handy. They were married in 1851.

Mrs. Brady passed away in 1887, after suffering for several years from a heart ailment.
