In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," Professor Quirrell is initially suspected of being the one who would confront the Basilisk. However, it is ultimately Harry Potter who faces the creature in the Chamber of Secrets, with the help of Fawkes the phoenix and the Sorting Hat, rather than a designated teacher. Quirrell, who is later revealed to be working for Voldemort, does not actually fulfill the role of defeating the Basilisk.
