Jackie Chan has accomplished many things in his life. He was born into a family so poor, his parents had to consider selling him in order to pay the medical bill for his birth. He struggled at school and was apprenticed to the China Drama Academy to learn to be a Beijing Opera performer. Unfortunately Beijing Opera was not as popular as it once was, struggling to compete with television and movies as a popular form of entertainment. Jackie used the acrobatic and Martial Arts skills he learned as a performer to find work as a stunt man in the Hong Kong film industry.

From here he rose to become a stunt coordinator but work was still hard to find and he had to give up and leave Hong Kong to live in Australia for a year with his parents in Canberra. Fortunately Hong Kong had not forgotten him and he was signed with Director Lo Wei. Unfortunately Lo Wei tried to make him into a second Bruce Lee. It was only when Jackie was loaned out to Seasonal Films that he got his big break with 'Snake in the Eagle's Shadow' and 'Drunken Master'.

After this Jackie Chan left Lo Wei and joined Golden Harvest where he went on to make some of his most successful and iconic films.

He went on to become an actor, producer, director, entrepeneur and philanthropist.

He is one of the most highly paid actors in Asia. He has been in the top 5 on the Forbes list for many years.

Jackie has won many accolades and awards for his films. He has made more than 200 movies in his career which has lasted more than 50 years and he shows no signs of stopping, despite recently announcing that he will not be making any more big action films.

He is also a successful singer having released more than 20 solo and compilation albums, most recently having been the only artist allowed to release a solo album of songs from the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

He was instrumental in forming the Hong Kong Stunt Men's Association and the Hong Kong Directors Guild.

He is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

He has been awarded two honorary degrees.

He has been given many honours and awards for his contributions to Hong Kong, and for his charity work.
