Disney Cast Members are the employees of the Disney theme parks who work in contact with park visitors. As for any employee, they should call in sick if they are not able to work well. Disney will have HR policies regarding what is permitted and required in this regard.

Typically guests will only ride with the lights on when an attraction requires evacuation. It is possible (though unlikely) that a guest would be allowed to ride with "work lights" on the final cycle of the night, if a Cast Member was asked. If you are a Disney Cast Member, attractions will sometimes plan backstage tours that allow riding with lights on.
