There are 8 Gym Leaders in Pokémon Pearl/Diamond, just as in any other pokémon game.
The first Gym Leader, Roark, of Oreburgh City, is a Rock type trainer. His Pokemon are all Rock type and use Rock type moves. Defeat him and you get the coal badge and TM76. You can also use Rock Smash (HM6) outside of battle. His Pokemon consist of Geodude (Lvl.12) Onix (Lvl.12) and Cranidos (Lvl.14) Water type Pokemon/moves are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The second Gym Leader, Gardenia, of Eterna City uses Grass type Pokemon and moves. In this Gym you have to find the 4 girls hidden around the gym and battle them before Gardenia shows herself. For defeating her you get the Forest Badge and TM80. You can also use Cut (HM1) outside of battle. Fire or Psychic type Pokemon/moves are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The third Gym Leader, Maylene, of Veilstone City, uses Fighting type Pokemon and moves. You must complete a simple push/slide puzzle to get to her, cometing with other trainers along the way. For defeating her, you get the Cobal Badge. You can also now use Fly(HM2) outside of battle. Her Pokemon consist of Meditite (Lvl.27) Machoke (Lvl.27) and Lucario (Lvl.30) Flying type Pokemon/moves are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The fourth Gym Leader, Crasher Wake, of Pastoria City uses water type Pokemon/moves. As does the puzzle that needs to be completed in order to reach him. It involves pushing buttons to raise and lower the water level/bridges. You will have to fight all the trainers on the way. For beating him you receive the Fen Badge. And you will also be able to use Defog(HM5) outside of battle. His Pokemon consist of Gyarados (Lvl.27) Quagsire (Lvl.27) and Floatzel (Lvl.30) Grass and Psychic Pokemon are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym leader easily.
The fifth Gym Leader, Fantina, of Hearthome City uses Ghost type Pokemon. Her gym consists of various levels. You start out on level 1, of course. There will be a simple math problem, and there are 3 choices, and 3 doors. Choose the door with the right answer assigned to it to move forward, or go behind one of the two incorrect doors to face a trainer. There will be 4 questions, then you finally get to battle her. In my opinion, she was the toughest. By beating her you earn the Relic Badge. You can also use Surf(HM3) outside of battle, which is needed to get to the next city and Gym Leader. Her Pokemon consists of Drifblim (Lvl.32) Gengar (Lvl.34) and Mismagius (Lvl.36) Dark type Pokemon/moves are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The sixth Gym Leader, Bryon, of Canalave City uses Steel type Pokemon/moves. To reach him you are required to make your way up, down, or around on platforms, while battling trainers along the way. In reward for defeating Bryon, you receive the Mine Badge and will also be allowed to use Strength(HM4) outside of battle. His Pokemon consist of Bronzor (Lvl.36) Steelix (Lvl.36) and Bastiodon (Lvl.39) Fire type Pokemon are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The seventh Gym Leader, Candice, of Snowpoint City, uses Ice type Pokemon of course! The puzzle requires you to make your way to Candice by sliding down the ice taking snowballs out of your way so that you are able to get through in a straight line. She gives you the Glaceon Badge. You can also use Rock Climb(HM7) outside of battle. Her Pokemon consist of Snover (Lvl.38) Sneasel (Lvl.38) Medicham (Lvl.40) and Abomasnow (Lvl.42) Fire type Pokemon are encouraged to use in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
The eighth and final Gym Leader, Volkner, of Sunyshore City uses Electric type Pokemon/moves. His gym requires you to create a path to him by pressing buttons on gears that rotate the bridges. He gives you the Beacon Badge, you can now also use Waterfall(HM8) outside of battle. Ground, Rock, and Fire type Pokemon are encouraged in order to beat this Gym Leader easily.
