Skill Drain (SD) can be a tricky card, but yields some big benefits. The ideal monsters in a deck using it would:

  • have effects that yield positive results when negated (e.g. Goblin Attack Force, Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast, etc.)
  • have effects that can activate in the Graveyard (since SD negates only monsters on the field) (e.g. Sangan, Mystic Tomato, Exiled Force, Nimble Momonga, Honest, etc.)
  • still serve a purpose before you get SD (i.e. Cyber Dragon if your field is clear and Breaker the Magical Warrior to destroy Spells and Traps)

Spells and Traps in the deck should:

  • increase your odds of drawing SD by allowing your to draw cards or search through your deck (e.g. Dark World Dealings, Gold Sarcophagus, and A Cat of Ill Omen)
  • protect SD (e.g. Dark Bribe, Solemn Judgement, etc.)
  • support/ work for your monsters (e.g. Reinforcement of the Army for Warriors, Macros Cosmos for out-of-play monsters, etc.)

This is only a broad list of suggested cards for a SDdeck. Many decks center on the card, but utilize a particular theme to make it more effective such as LIGHT-attribute Elemental Heroes. Use the Related Links section below to read some articles on SD decks.

Can skill drain stop gladiator beasts?

Skill Drain negates the effects of all monsters on the field. Since Gladiator Beasts' effects activate on the field, at the end of the battle phase, Skill Drain negates it. But for card effects that activate in the hand, like Honest or Montage Dragon, Skill Drain negates it. If this information is to create a Skill Drain Deck (which is really, really nasty because most really good decks rely on monster effects), I would also warn you about Fairy Meteor Crush and other cards that give that effect: Since Piercing Damage is an effect that must be attached to a monster, Skill Drain negates it. Also, for a Skill Drain Deck needs to have a bunch of trap-searching Spell/Trap/Monster effects and Spell/Trap/Monster effects that protect you until you until you get Skill Drain.

What is a good deck to defeat a Spell Counter deck?

A deck centered on Spell Counters can be defeated by using a "Skill Drain" deck since "Skill Drain" would get rid of and prevent any monsters from holding Spell Counters. A Counter Fairy deck is another alternative since it utilizes Counter-Trap cards (such as "Magic Jammer", "Dark Bribe", etc.) with Fairy-Type monsters that have effect in conjunction with Counter-Traps. You can use your cards to negate Spells and thus prevent Spell Counter from being added to monsters. A negation deck is another good deck. In a deck that centers on negating your opponent's Spells and Traps (and sometimes Monsters, too), "Horus LV8", "Spell Canceler", and/ or "Imperial Order" can negate Spells and stop the main method of adding Spell Counters to monsters.
