What do you learn about katniss in the first chapter of the hunger games?

Katniss is the main character in The Hunger Games. She takes her sister's place in going to The Hunger Games (which is games where a boy and a girl from each district are sent into an different arena each game, fighting to death until theres only one left)Katniss is put in the arena with a guy in her district named Peeta. His parents work at the bakery, which he also does. When Katniss gets put in the arena she grabs the survival pack and runs. She climbs up a tree and sleeps there. Later in the book the Careers (Clove,Marvel,Cato, and Glimmer) plus Peeta are coming to get her, she climbs up the tree and they shoot and throw all different kinds of things but miss. Then Katniss sees the careers sleeping and Rue (Girl from district 11) points to the wasp nest (tracker jackers) up higher in the tree and tries to cut it with a knife and eventually manages to and they kill Glimmer, while Katniss is doing this she gets stung in the neck, faints, and is out for 2 days and Rue protects her later Katniss wakes up and Rue and her are now allies.
