Why did Haym Salomon feel the need to defend the contribution of Jews to the American Revolution?

He was responding to ambient Anti-Semitism in Post-Revolution America which held that Jews should not have rights in the new country because they did not help to create it. As a result, Haym Salomon defended his own contributions and those of other Jews to the American Revolution in order to justify their rights as free citizens. (Jews were not free citizens in most European countries.)

Who were the persons that placed the large stone Memorial Marker for Haym Salomon behind the gate in Mikva Israel Cemetery Philadelphia PA?

This article does justice to Haym Salomon's existence and the huge part he had in establishing our country. However few citizens know that his actual grave site to this day is not known. In realization of that fact, as first past president of Haym Salomon Lodge #663, Brith Sholom and member of a blue ribbon panel, comprised of myself, Sidney Bruskin and Marvin Abrams a project was proposed designated to in some way create a memorial in Mikvah Israel Cemetery on the north side of Spruce st. between 8th and 9th sts in Philadelphia, PA .where the patriot is buried. After much time and negotiation with the board members of the cemetery, the Haym Salomon Memorial Committee agreed to the following: Sponsored by the Haym Salomon Lodge #663, we would acquire the funds and reconstruct the walkways and brick walls surrounding the entire cemetery in order to receive permission to place an large, engraved memorial marker of Barre Granite just inside the cemetery gates., True to the agreement, the job promised was done, the stone was placed and on June 17, 1980 the Philadelphia public was advised of the fact in the Philadelphia Morning Inquirer, complete with a background story and photograph of the event. The marker is easily seen by all who desire to look through the front gate. The inscription simply states "An American Patriot" At last there is a marker of recognition for this heroic Jewish hero.
