What happens if you don't select Pichu as your friend Pokemon in guardian signs?

In Guardian Signs, there are no options for a friend Pokemon. You are simply given the Ukulele Pichu from Dolce Island early on in the game and you're stuck with it. A better friend Pokemon system, in my opinion, was in Shadows of ALmia where you could choose between a variety of Pokemon.

Select the first option, and select DEPOSIT POKEMON. Then choose the Pokemon in your party in which you want to remove and select DEPOSIT. Then press B and reply no to the question. Then select WITHDRAW POKEMON. Then select the Pokemon in the box that it is in and select WITHDRAW
