What happens in Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief?

Percy Jackson finds out that he is a half-blood and is sent to Camp Half-Blood. There, he meets Annabeth Chase, and reunites with Grover. He finds out that the Greek Gods are real, and all of their offspring are sent to this camp. Percy finds out that he is the only son of Posiedon, and Annabeth, Grover, and Percy go on a quest to find his mom, who was sent to the Underworld.

He learned that many things that he did not understand about his mother was actually where she making sacrifices for him.

He learned how fortunate he was to have a parent that was there for him, because people like Luke didn't really have anyone, and was pretty bitter because of it.

He learned that his history teacher was part horse, and his best friend was part goat.
