I've heard that the elite writers and artists get paid $300-400 per page plus a percentage of sales while the not so popular ones can make as little as $80 a page plus a percentage of sales. Assuming you write one 20 page issue a month for a year, that translates to $72,000-$96,000 plus sales for the elite writers and as little as $19,200 plus sales for the others. So if you were to get into the business, you would have to write 3-4 books a month to make a decent living which I'm sure is A LOT harder that it sounds.

Comic book artists and writers' salaries are a closely guarded secret, so these numbers may not even be close at all. I do remember reading an interview where Joss Whedon (who has made a pretty big name for himself in the comic book business) said that he would never be able to focus solely on creating comics because he would barely be able to feed his family for what he gets paid for them. Of course, he makes millions off of movies and TV shows and what not, so he could have just been exaggerating a bit.
