Well, I don’t think there really is a moral lesson in a Series of Unfortunate Events. The story revolves around orphans who are being hunted down by an evil man who tries to steal their fortune. Although the series is great, I don’t think there is a lesson.
The conflict in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules" is that Rodrick knows Greg's biggest secret and he's afraid if he upsets Rodrick, Rodrick will tell everybody Greg's secret.

The theme is there is a need for social progress in an ever changing world. On a side note, Julian tries to teach his mother a lesson about racial integration and social progress. Since this is a plot that is seen throughout the story, I suppose that is the theme.
