The first work that made LeRoy famous was actually the the contributions he made to early Playboy magazines, which his friend Hugh Hefner started. The most expensive painting he has ever sold is "Man at his Leisure: Le Mans", which came out of the Playboy archives and went for $107,550 at auction. LeRoy Neiman is most well-known for his sports paintings these days. "Stretch Stampede", which depicts his the Kentucky Derby, is one of his most well-known sports images.

In regards to paintings unrelated to sports, his safari series, particularly "Portrait of a Lion" is quite recognizable. Many people are also aware of LeRoy Neiman through his association with Burger King in the 1970s.
