Gandalf was of the Istari (Wizards) and was thus a Maia, or demigod of sorts. You could call him a lesser spirit of power. In Middle-earth, he assumed the form of an old man, and was known as Gandalf "Elf of the Wand" but was neither man nor elf.
The character Legolas from The Lord of the Rings is an Elf of Mirkwood. From his father he is of the Sindar people; his mother is unknown, although she most certainly was either a Sinda or a Silvan elf (wood-elf).
Aragorn is a man, one of the Dunedain to be more precise. He is descended from the Men of Numenor, and also has elven and Maiar blood, though he is so far descended from those ancestors as to make that blood obsolete. Aragorn's ancestry includes such figures as Melian the Maia, Beren and Luthien, Earendil and Elwing, Elros, Elendil, and Isildur.
Aragorn was descended from the kings of the ancient kingdom of Arthedain, which in turn was once part of a larger kingdom called Arnor. It is unknown exactly where he was born, but he was likely born somewhere in what used to be Arthedain. Arthedain covers a lot of the area just to the north of where the early part of the Fellowship of the Ring takes place. What is known, however, is that he grew up in Rivendell and learned from Elrond, as was the custom for his family since the fall of Arthedain.
