Let us make haste slowly underground,, landslides are , well bad for business. This surely is a shaky entrance.. You said a family- that rules out the Sutherland production of Journey to the Center of the Earth- with Good Guy Professor Hal Lindenbrook- the Bad guy mad scientist- also Scandinavian, a Boy and Girl on the Professor"s team, Mountain Guide Lars for comic relief- and as in the Verne novel- Gertrude the Duck ( the bad guy does not kill off Gertrude in the cartoon- ASPCA might object.) They did not use cars. All sorts of natural, and not so natural ( freak accidental crashes, etc) formed the subject matter of Thunderbirds which was about a futuristic Rescue Squad- maybe it was one of these. As you describe it- the intro would frighten kids.
