Because he believed in his faith and what that faith called for him to do. He spoke the truth and was killed for it. His death was a terrible lesson of what happens to faith when it leaves the safety of the church and enters real life, especially real political life.

Assassinated while offering mass, he spoke out about poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture.
