When Walt was younger, he worked for his father by being a newspaper boy. When he was about 15, he started working on the Santa Fe train by selling things on carts, like bottles, candy, newspaper, etc. When he was 17 he enlisted in the first world war by being the truck driver for the Red Cross. (He would take soldiers to their posts). When he arrived back home, he tried to get into the animation business by drawing cartoon ads for the Kansas City paper. Later, he and his partner Ub Iwerks started their own company, "Laugh-O-Grams," which eventually went out of business. They were both later laid off from the Kansas City paper, and Walt decided to open up his own animation studio with Iwerks. Afterwards that also went out of business, and Walt eventually went to his brother Roy to ask for money. He and Roy set up a make-shift studio in their uncle's garage selling 7-minute animated shorts, specifically "Alice's Adventures in Cartoonland." He was in compliance with a distributing company who bought the shorts, but those too became unwanted. He later began working for Universal Studios by making "Oswald the Rabbit" Cartoons, but eventually the distributors took his animation staff and Walt dropped the contract, the company taking Oswald wth them. Eventually Walt created "Three Little Pigs," which was distributed with another company but they too turned out to be a folly. After his trip home, he was inspired to animate Mickey Mouse- which became a hit. There's a lot of fine details within that, but his success skyrocketed after the sale of Mickey Mouse...and then that's when he reasoned to begin working on his first feature-length animation: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
