Well the Elder wand has a long backstory but basically Dumbledore starts off with it in the book. Then when Draco disarms Dumbledore he becomes it's master unknowingly. Then Harry over powers Draco becoming the new owner. Voldemort kills Snape who killed Dumbledore so he BELIEVES that he is the true master of the Elder Wand. Tom Riddle a.k.a Lord Voldemort cast the killing curse at Harry Potter with the Elder Wand. Harry Potter deflected the spell and because Harry owned the Elder Wand it left Voldemort's hand and flew to Harry leaving Voldemort defenceless and he was hit by the rebounding curse.
