Catherine of Aragon was born in Madrid, Spain on December 16, 1485. Spain had been united under the rule of her parents King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile who drove out the moors from Granda, financed Christopher Columbus, and established the Spanish Inquestion.

Throughout her years as Queen of England she spoke spanish, even teaching her husband the language, never loosing her accent, though she spent only up to her early teenage years in Spain. She continued to favor people from her native country and including her spanish ladies-in-waiting over her English ones. She lived to be fifty years old but she never stoped missing Spain.
