Nope, born in Minneapolis. Grew up in Bloomington, MN, played youth hockey in the Jefferson program, then played in the Shattuck program until going to college at UND.
Actually, since his father is French Canadian (and played for Team Canada) and is a dual USA/Canadian citizen, Zach is indeed Canadian. If his parents filled out Canadian citizenship papers, thereby obtaining Canadian citizenship for him, he could play for either the USA or Canada.
