John Smith, and Christopher Newport, was an important person, he was the founder of the colony with the help of the London Company. He founded it in 1607. If that is also to do with Roanoke island sir Walter Raleigh went there and the 2nd colony had one more person because one of the ladies had a daughter named Virginia dare. Virginia was named after queen elizibeth the first the virgin queen.
