Why did the English version of Sailor Moon cut loads of scenes out?
The original Japanese version of Sailor Moon was rated for teenagers and had concepts that most Americans would see as unsavory for children to watch, like sacrificing oneself so that others can live to fight on (season one) and bad guys who were posing as siblings kissing (season 2). Thus, the people who dubbed and edited Sailor Moon for Americans cut our loads of scenes tried to turn what was supposed to be a show for teen girls into a show for little kids.

The Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon manga series was indeed created by girls, for girls, about girls. The anime Pretty Soldier Sailormoon that was based on the manga was drawn by men and has a more masculine air about it than the manga. Taiki, Seiya and Yaten used magic to appear as boys, to disguise themselves, so that Sailor Galaxia couldn't find them. However, they also posed as a boy band, so they could use their music to find their princess, Kakyuu. Their ploy to find their lost princess did work, however she was too injured to reveal herself to them. So until she had recovered from an earlier attack by Galaxia, Kakyuu remained hidden in an incense burner, which Chibi Chibi watched over.
