Rick Riordan came up with the original plot on which the movies were based.
The reason why Rick Riordan, the author of The Lightning Thief chose the title 'The Lightning Thief' for the title of his book was because it was what the story plot was mainly about; finding out who the true lightning thief was.'Zeus's stolen bolt' would not bring in much readers, so he had to make a drawing title. The Lightning Thief makes you wonder, who is the lightning thief? So you pick up the book and begin to read it, to find out. That is what Rick Riordan wanted, so he created 'The Lightning Thief' to be his title of his book.
Luke is a major part of the plot of the entire series while Ares only plays a minor part in The Lightning Thief and a part about as big in every other book in the series. If you look closely Ares was in the movie, just he didn't have an obvious role; he was at Olympus and could be seen if you looked very closely when Percy returned the bolt to Zeus. PLus Luke actually was The Lightning Thief in PJO: The Lightning Thief but Ares took it from Luke while Luke was on his way to Kronos (or Cronus, your choice.) The book states that gods were not allowed to steal from each other, and with Zeus being who he was, would you? The book also says that the gods often got heroes to do this kind of thing for them. That's why Luke stole the lightning bolt and not Ares, and why Percy had to get it back instead of Zeus or Poseidon.
In "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan, on page 135, it is revealed that Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen. This powerful weapon is a symbol of his authority, and its theft is the central conflict driving the plot. Percy Jackson, the protagonist, is tasked with finding the bolt and returning it to prevent a war among the gods. The incident sets off a series of adventures as Percy navigates the challenges of the mythological world.
The plot wouldn't go on and the series and book wouldn't be that interesting.
There is no such thing to be developed.
I thought that the plot of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was rather silly. Even so, the movie is amusing. Silly movies can still be entertaining.
Beckendorf was not in the lightning thief movie. in fact many of the major character in the book, such as Ares, Claries, Seilena, and Dyonesious were not in the film either. also, the movie left out scenes and changed the plot alot, so dont get you hopes up if you really love the book

The antagonist in the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is Luke Castellan. He is a demigod and a son of Hermes who betrays Percy Jackson and plays a significant role in the plot.
Mabye, the stole half the plot of the lightning thief movie from the sea of monsters, plus the explode too many things in that book. If they do make a movie, it will be nothing like the book
The title "The Lightning Thief" refers to the protagonist, Percy Jackson, who is accused of stealing Zeus's lightning bolt in the story. This event sets off the main conflict of the book and drives the plot forward.

He's accused of stealing a lightning bolt from Zeus, travels across the country to hades, he gets the bolt back and brings it back to Zeus. That's the main plot (i almost wrote the whole story 0.0)
They did use the same idea, except they didn't put every detail in it or else it would be a very long movie. Plus they can't make the movie the exact same, or else you'd see everything coming.
I have to say, I think that the movie was completely of the plot line of the book. Maybe it's because I am a Percy Jackson book fanatic, but I think the the movie was corny, and was BARELY based on the books. On the whole, I disliked it. I hope they don't ruin The Sea of Monsters too!
One major difference between "The Lightning Thief" book and the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" movie is the age of the characters; in the book, Percy is 12 years old, whereas in the movie, he is portrayed as a teenager. Additionally, the movie simplifies and changes some plot elements, character relationships, and key events from the book to fit the constraints of a film adaptation.
I don't exactly know why but I think it was because they didn't pay attention to details. They got a lot of parts of the movie wrong. Movies are supposed to be a little different from the books, but they shouldn't be that different.
