The first official use of the name "Hollywood" was on February 1, 1887 when H.H. Wilcox filed a deed and map of property he sold. Hollywood was incorporated as a municipality on November 14, 1903. In 1910, town officials voted for Hollywood to be annexed into the City of Los Angeles, in order to have access to an adequate water supply and a sewage system. The first studio in Hollywood was established by the New Jersey-based Centaur Co. in 1911, called the Nestor Studio. By 1915, the majority of American films were being produced in the Los Angeles area and by 1920, Hollywood was world famous as the center of the US film industry.
